Proper Placement of Tub Fillers on a Tub or Deck

Tub fillers – also known as tub faucets – control the flow of water into a bathtub. There are a variety of tub fillers, including many deck and rim-mounted styles, which are installed on the deck or rim of the bathtub as opposed to being installed on the bathtub wall. Depending on the shape of your bathtub or the surrounding deck area, the tub filler can be placed at the head or foot of the tub area, or on either side.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the tub filler on the left or right side of the bathtub if the tub will be used by two people at the same time. This will allow the couple to comfortably recline at separate ends of the tub.

    • 2

Place the tub filler on one of the ends of the bathtub if only one individual will be using it at a time. In this instance, the tub filler will be placed at the same end of the tub where the tub drain is located.

    • 3

Place the tub filler on the lower end of a slipper claw-foot tub, which has a higher rim on one end. However with a double-slipper or double-ended claw-foot tub -- a tub whose rim slopes high on both ends and is low in the middle -- place the tub filler on one of the sides so you can use both ends of the tub for reclining.

Take measurements on tubs that have predrilled holes to ensure that you get the correct size of tub filler. The measurements should be indicated on the bathtub, but if not, measure the space between the two outside holes. On most tubs, the measurement between the center of the two holes is 7 inches. However, on some specialty tubs, the measurement may be or exceed 8 inches.
