How to Add Faucet Holes to a Drop-in Utility Sink

Utility sinks are usually manufactured with predrilled faucet holes. But you may choose to use a different type of faucet, or you may want to add a hole for a sprayer or soap dispenser and require additional faucet holes. Utility sinks are made out of plastic and require no special drill or bit type, making adding a faucet hole a simple do-it-yourself project that any competent homeowner with an electric drill can complete.

Things You'll Need

  • Measuring tape
  • Drafting compass
  • Electric drill
  • 1/8-inch drill bit

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the diameter of the faucet, soap dispenser or sprayer to determine what size hole is necessary if you don't have a paper template.

    • 2

Choose a location for the faucet holes. If the faucet, soap dispenser or sprayer came with a template lay it on the desired location and mark the center.

    • 3

Set a compass to the radius -- half the diameter -- of the hole and place the needle on the center mark. Draw a circle to mark the exact location of the new hole.

    • 4

Fit an electric drill with a 1/8-inch bit and drill a pilot hole through the center mark. Remove the bit and replace it with a hole saw blade in the correct size for the hole.

    • 5

Drill straight down through the sink top along the marked line. Remove the disk of sink top and install the faucet, soap dispenser or sprayer according to package directions.
