How to Create a Block Library in AutoCAD 2008

When using AutoCAD 2008, organizing your model is an important aspect that will help you maximize your productivity. If you anticipate your model to be quite detailed, using the "Block" command will help you organize your file. The "Block" command takes individual lines and polylines and turns them in to solid objects that can be moved and modified as one object. For many users, blocks are used for furniture, plumbing fixtures, doors and windows because these objects are often duplicated and detailed.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a new drawing and make sure you are in "Model" space.

    • 2

Draw a shape using the "Line" or "Polyline" tool.

    • 3

Select all lines that make up the object by clicking and dragging the selection tool over the shape.

    • 4

Type "Block" into the command line to execute the task. A pop-up window with many options will appear after you type it in.

    • 5

Specify a name for the block as well as proper units. It would be a good idea to keep the units the same as your model layout.
