Draw a basic floor plan on a piece of graph paper. Include architectural features on the graph paper in order to include them in floor plan designs. Measure the lengths and widths of walls and write down measurements when determining the area of the store.
Determine where you want certain aspects of the store to be. For example, section off a space in the front of the salon to be a waiting area for clients.
Place the reception desk near the front of the store in order to efficiently assist clients and provide a welcome to incoming guests. A retail area right behind the reception desk saves space and keeps it noticeable to clients.
Design the layout to feature manicure or pedicure stations towards the back of the store, along with shampoo stations against a wall. This will help you keep your services separated and cohesive in any size space.
Finish off the floor plan by determining where a staff lounge and storage area will go. Each of these should be located in the back corners of the store to keep them out of the way of clients.
