Craft Uses for Ceramic Tiles

Ceramic tiles come in all sizes and are used for counter and floor work in many homes. There are often tiles left over after a job is finished. If you have a talent for making crafts, there's no need to let the excess tiles go to waste. Use leftover tiles as the basis for art projects ranging from jewelry to decorative touches for any room in your house.
  1. Matching Ceramic Artwork

    • Use tiles left over from laying a floor by painting designs on them with acrylic paint to match the theme or color decor of the room where you've laid the rest of the tiles. Painted tiles can be hung on the wall to showcase the artwork, with the added benefit that the artwork is painted on tiles that match the floor.

    Ceramic Jewelry

    • Miniature ceramic tiles are ideal for making earrings, necklaces and bracelets. Purchase bulk chains and drill small holes in the ceramic tiles to slip them onto the chains. You can purchase bulk miniature colored tiles at many hardware stores. Don't stay with the simple square shape. Minitiles come in triangle, circle and oval shapes as well.

    Ceramic Coaster

    • Ceramic tiles make excellent coasters for your end tables. Choose a color and design that goes with your room, then use acrylic paints to create one-of-a-kind masterpieces on each tile. You can also glue pictures of your family to the ceramic tiles and paint over them with a clear water-resistant sealant. Screwing picture stand backings on the backs of the tiles will turn your coasters into decorative photographs of your family.

    Ceramic Puzzle

    • If you know someone with a jigsaw, draw pictures and designs on ceramic tiles and have them cut into a jigsaw puzzle suitable for displaying as a conversation piece on your coffee table.
