Roof Design Programs

A few decades ago, roof building was a tedious and time-consuming task. The use of computers as a planning tool was rare. Today's roof builders often use software as aids to plan out their tasks. Most often, these efforts come in the form of CAD, or Computer-Aided Design, programs. Most of them are also downloadable and offer a free trial.
  1. Easy Rafters

    • Easy Rafters is useful to both the experienced and inexperienced builder. It is a CAD program that helps you reduce the cost of building by accurately measuring and cutting roof rafters. The program is designed for building any variety of roof type like hip roofs, dual slopes and gable roofs. After the rafter type and its dimensions are entered into the program, a drawing available in all dimensions is instantly created. This can then be printed, exported to a DXF (Drawing Exchange Format) file or viewed on the screen. If you're a professional builder, you can then add these drawings to your plans to increase the value of your service to your customers.

    RoofCalcWriter

    • RoofCalcWriter is a roof estimating software that has been designed primarily for builders with established businesses. It is simple to use and works much like a simple calculator. You simply enter your measurements for the roof, and you get instant totals for building materials, such as shingles, plywood and rolls of felt. The totals for these materials are updated when measurements are added or changed. Estimates are easy to organize using the address book that is built into the software. Information is saved under a company's name and address or a customer's last name and address. This makes it especially valuable when it comes to repeat customers.

    Roof Designer

    • Roof Designer is a plug-in software designed for 3D Studio Max, and is used for creating three-dimensional roof drawings. It makes it easy to import roofs from other CAD programs and continue working on them. You can easily add texture and mesh tiles to your roofs with Roof Designer. It keeps mesh faces flat so you can easily change their slopes using an overhead view. You can create custom tiles and use them in your design. Roof Designer uses a Max Script interface and comes with real-time displays.
