Foam Crown Molding Installation

Foam crown molding can take the headache out of installing traditional crown molding. Most foam crown molding has a flat back and can be easily glued in place. The foam molding does not need nails or special cutting techniques. Because foam crown molding is so easy to install, most homeowners can install it in just a few hours plus adhesive drying time. Some may choose to paint the molding after installation, but the process is much easier if it is done before you glue the molding into place.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay out the foam crown molding on a couple of sawhorses. Paint the molding with high-gloss paint. Painting the foam molding is much easier prior to installation than after installation. Let the paint dry for two or three hours.

    • 2

Apply construction adhesive on the back of the foam corner pieces. Stick the pieces on the corners of the walls. If necessary, use a piece of painter's tape to keep the pieces in place while the glue dries.

    • 3

Measure the length of the wall between the corner pieces with a measuring tape. Write the measurements on the length of foam crown molding. Use a hacksaw to cut the molding to the appropriate length.
