A property developer is a multi-skilled business person who coordinates a number of different facets in developing and improving a tract of land. If you are the owner of a land parcel or in some other way an interested party in developing a property, one of your first tasks will be to find a capable property developer who can turn the area into something of value for the surrounding public and for you as the owner of the land.       Contact a local builder's association and request a directory of developers. You may be able to find your local builder's association online through the National Association of Home Builders website (nahb.org). A local real estate agency may also be able to provide a directory.

      Scout locations within the town or region that are similar to your property or that match your desired results. Often, contact information for the developer can be found on signage on the property, or by contacting management personnel onsite.

      Request interviews with the real estate developers you find or with their representatives. Ask for information on other projects completed by the developer to gain an assessment of compatibility with your goals.

      Enlist the assistance of other professionals related to development. Local architects, planning consultants, engineers, and even financiers can provide direction and assistance in locating suitable developers.
