Old mobile homes can be an eyesore, sitting for years and collecting rust and debris. The metal and fixtures in these homes can come in handy when recycling, salvaging or scrapping. This is known as junking a mobile home, and can be done by yourself or through a salvage service. Always locate your local metal recycling plant before junking your mobile home so that you do not get stuck with tons of twisted metal.

  Remove all fixtures from your mobile home, including faucets, light sockets, pipes, copper wiring, and heating and cooling elements. Disconnect the water heater and central heating unit from your home and completely empty any fluid.

  Contact your local landfill or recycling center. Mobile home shells and fixtures can be dumped or sold per pound. It will cost you to transport the shell, so weigh your options before making a final decision. Some salvage yards may offer to transport the shell at no cost to you and pay you for the metal.

  Donate your mobile home to your local fire department, which often uses old mobile homes to train firefighters. The department may remove your old mobile home from your property and move it their training facility for free.

  Contact local government authorities to report abandoned mobile homes. Many states and counties have retrieval methods in place to remove and junk old mobile homes that are commonly found in wooded areas and abandoned properties.
