Difference Between Owens Corning 703 & 705

Owens Corning is an American company that specializes in manufacturing building materials, like insulation, roofing materials, windows, technical fabrics and noise control products. The Fiberglas 700 Series insulation are made of inorganic glass fibers with thermosetting resin binder that help save energy and reduce the rate of heat transfer.
  1. Plain

    • The plain versions of the Owens Corning 703 and 705 insulations have two thicknesses, 1 and 2 inches. The thermal performance remains the same for each version of the 700 series, but the sound absorption quality changes between the 703 and 705 series. The 705 plain insulation allows much less sound frequency through compared to the 703 plain insulation. As the frequencies rise in strength, the difference between the insulation becomes much smaller.

    FRK

    • Both Owens Corning insulation types come with FRK covering, which is a vapor retarder laminate made of foil/scrim kraft construction. Unlike the plain version, the sound absorption for the 703 FRK insulation is stronger than the 705 FRK insulation. Similar to the plain insulation, however, the higher the frequency, the smaller the difference between the two insulation types.

    All-Service Jacket

    • The 703 and 705 both come in All-Service Jacket (ASJ) forms, which is a vapor retarder laminate of reinforced bleached white kraft/foil construction. The 703 ASJ allows a little less sound through than the 705 ASJ insulation, and this trend continues as the sound frequency increases, keeping the difference between the two 700 series insulations fairly stable.

    Uses

    • The Owens Corning 703 insulation consists of semi-rigid boards that should be used for vessels, equipment and air conditioning ductwork. The 705 insulation consists of high-strength rigid boards that should be used on hot and cold equipment, chillers, heating and air conditioning ductwork. It is made specifically for high abuse resistance and for places where a good appearance is important.
