The second floor on a bi-level loft must open to the first floor and create only a partial ceiling; otherwise, the space becomes a two-floor apartment.

• A queen bi-level loft constitutes a type of hotel room. The term describes a bi-level loft room with a queen-sized bed. Hotels use the foreshortened phrase “queen bi-level loft” on websites and in company literature to succinctly describe a room. Because true loft spaces only exist in buildings originally designed as nonresidential spaces, most queen bi-level lofts do not constitute true lofts, but rather loft-like spaces with a raised second floor overlooking the first floor.

• Specifications for queen bi-level lofts depend completely upon the hotel offering the room. Some contain an open first-level floor plan with the living room and bedroom spaces located side by side and a kitchen, bathroom, game room or some other such amenity on the second floor. Other hotels place the bed and other accoutrements such as a Jacuzzi on the second floor, with the living room and any kitchen space available located on the first floor.
